I’ve talked to several business folks in the past week. The number one issue they cite is not having the time or the perseverance to really dig deep into a blogging or social media project. I assure them everyone’s having the same difficulty, but really, ideally, you’ve just got to find the time.
Why?
1. I recently inhaled Gary Vaynerchuk’s book Crush It! and well, you should read it. Sure, he recommends NOT outsourcing the blogging/social media stuff, but if you have to, you have to. Vaynerchuk’s main point is that the Internet is the new marketing medium. It is the place to be if you want to make money. You can’t afford NOT to jump in.
2. You don’t have to do everything all at once. A blog, a Twitter account, a Facebook fan page. All this can be done in conjunction with each other and can be accomplished on a weekly basis by yourself or a blogger for hire.
3. Taking the time to think through a quick social media/blogging strategy doesn’t take long. Just take an hour and really think. Get Gary’s book (above) if you need help strategizing.
4. You can’t wait any longer. The faster you get your online presence up and running, the better it will be for your business. You must realize this. Procrastinating is not the way to go as we head into 2010.
5. Social media scares a lot of people. It’s new, it’s different, it seems to be running from the perspective of the Gen Y crowd who don’t understand that there are dues to be paid, right channels to go through, the right people to know. WRONG! The rules of the game are no longer the same.
You can do it. C’mon online. If you have questions or want to chat about how this will affect your business (it will make your business fly, trust me), visit my About page or contact me on Twitter.
