They’re easy. They do the hard work on your blog and keep track of information so you can go do . . . nothing.
What are plugins?
Addons to a computer program that interact with a host app (web browser or email client or blogging software) to provide a “certain, usually very specific, function ‘on demand.’”
What are widgets?
These are applications that can be downloaded, installed, and executed within any HTML-based web page by an end user. They don’t require any programming know-how, and once they’re installed, they just go.
WordPress has developed specific plugins for your blog. A plugin can provide an RSS feed on your blog and can add a Flickr stream to your blog’s sidebar.
A widget can give you the weather around the world, enable you to host a Flickr stream on your desktop screen, or can help you sync with your calendar or iTunes.
Fun stuff, yes?
