BlogSuccess: The Relentless Pursuit of Getting More Traffic (or Subscribers)

by Trish on February 23, 2009

I have blogging clients because of this sole reason. Sure, everyone needs to be profitable and get business, but it’s the traffic (or subscribers) that bring that business and profitability. I’m definitely not the final word on getting traffic or subscribers, but I know people who are extremely successful at it and have utilized their strategies for my own blogs (you’re reading this, aren’t you?) and there are definite actions to take on a weekly or daily basis to continue to build your traffic and subscribers to the level you want it to be.

1. First, you need a goal. Yep, here I go again with the goal-setting stuff. Sorry. What do you want your traffic to be? How many subscribers do you want? And not within 24 hours, say within six months, I want to double my traffic, I want 200 subscribers. That there’s actionable.

2. Second, you’ve got to get your brain wrapped around writing stuff people will flock to your site to read. This comes from creating pieces that help others, that inspire others, that offer solutions to your readers. How do you do that? Think about why you read other people’s blogs. Is it because it inspires you, makes you feel better, what? That’s what you’re going to have to replicate for your own site (not anyone else’s content, but that response).

3. Spread the word of your blog. So, if you have set a goal of 200 subscribers or doubling your traffic in six months, you gotta work the goal. Have you told everyone you possibly can about your blog? Have you talked about it on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, any communities you belong to online, have you left a link every time you leave a comment on someone else’s blog? That’s spreading the word. You also need to exchange links, meet and chat with people so they get to know you and your point of view. Networking is never wasted time, if done with a goal in mind.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go, make some goals!
