Friday Fabulous Fiver

by Trish on May 23, 2008

1. This week has been so busy! I got one day to rest and then it has been solid go-go-go! That does make it easier to get back on the right time zone, get back to the office with my entire brain and back to work mode. From today until June 27 when I get on a plane to Boston, things will be intense!

2. We’re just two weeks away from our inaugural camping trip to central Washington with A’s group. We’re going to Quincy, Washington.

It should be really hot! Luckily, our friend A got the two spots on the river, with trees and the fire pits. Plus we’ll have several boats with us. I’m so ready!

3. My first writing class is on Memorial Day. Thoughts of the essay that I’m taking with me are filling up my mind. The teacher worked at the New Yorker for 5 years and really knows her stuff. Her site is here. I am nervous too, though. I seek to push my writing to the edge and wonder sometimes if I push it too far? Then I watch a movie like One True Thing today and realize that I need to keep pushing. My first writings won’t be amazing, but I will spend the rest of my life improving.

4. I’m reading The Luxe by Anna Godbersen right now (in between Pretties and Specials by Scott Westerfeld).

the luxe

Interesting. I will definitely write a review if the book turns out to be interesting.

5. Just finished watching the final two episodes of Cranford on PBS’ Masterpiece Classic series. I caught the first episode before we flew to London. Elizabeth Gaskell and Dame Judi Dench joining forces with a veritable star-studded cast? What could be better? If you want to watch the episodes online (through today only) go here. And here is a great documentary on the author. And if you want to read what other viewers thought of the series (or want to share what you thought), there are discussion forums for just Cranford here.

6. And a special THANK YOU to those who have served our country. We appreciate you. God bless you! Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend.

Hey, nice digs! And that’s a gorgeous picture, by the way. It makes me wanna hop on a plane and go there right now. :P

I found your (old) blog on blogcatalog.com and since you’re obviously into writing, I wanted to let you know about a new e-zine that me and a few writer friends are putting together.

It’s called The Oddville Press
http://theoddvillepress.com/

We’re just getting off the ground so our website isn’t completely finished yet. I know you said you’re busy, but you should check us out if you’re interested–or better yet, submit something!

Thanks a bunch and good luck with your writing class! :)
